PBJ Records Artist Liz Primeaux Performs In Austin TX ,Event Raises $200,000

PBJ Records/Wacaramusic artist Liz Primeaux performed Saturday September 24th in Austin TX for a packed house. With the threat of hurricane Rita and many people from Houston-Galveston-Corpus Christi in attendance the concert helped to raise $200,000 for the St. John Neumann church.
The church sponsors many different charities, including Habitat For Humanity, for which the PBJ Records/Wacaramusic house band "Just Play" performed at the 25th Anniversary event which was televised and featured Austin mayor Will Wynn and Senator Lloyd Doggett, and Mobile Loaves and Fishes which feeds the homeless of Austin daily.
Also on the bill was PBJ Records artist James "Redman" Warren, who performs totally spontaneous songs with acoustic guitar. Redman continually amazed the audience by improvising songs about members of the audience! back | top

Studio: just recieved the latest UNIVERSAL AUDIO Mastering Suite:Precision Limiter & Precision EQ.We are currently building mic clone of Neumann U47, plus outboard consloe pres amp clone of Allen Smart's Ocean Way console with seperate channel pre's of API,NEVE,SSL, etc.I was fortunate to have him show me that set-up while recording there for Motown and at the time there was no way you could get that. Now with digital technology we can duplicate it right here!.As NARAS members we attended the Grammy assoc presentation at Austin City Limits soundstage of Al Schmitt, (17 Grammy-winning engineer for Capitol Records-Barbara Streisand,Madonna,Celine Dion,Frank Sinatra,Natalie Cole,Diana Krall,Steely Dan,Jefferson Airplane)who demonstrated micing techniques for us recording Marcia Ball on piano & vocals. He played unreleased tracks for us in 5.1 surround including Diana Krall's Christmas album, a new surround session of Pink Panther with Plas Johnson (original sax player)and his surround remix of The Carpenters ("Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft")We aso got a chance to chat with Rupert Neve and get his advice on recording at 192 rate.

Well we have been very busy at PBJ as evidenced by our lack of posting here! I usually hate people who arent on the puter all the time so i can get a hold of them, but music biz people (especially producer engineer mixer types) are often locked in the studio actually making music!Since I am all of these I can't really complain, but I do my best (we have computers in the studio at PBJ that are on all the time with aim, etc running)Summer has been particulary busy right now with lots of bands either touring or showcasing.The Drama is being chased by every Major Label right now, so they basically do a show in Orlando, then get flown to NY to showcase for a Major, then go back home and do it again the next week!(Tough job, somebody's got to do it!)

We have a New Digital Internet Radio Station!Wacara/PBJ Radio playing only our artists and podcasts! At the moment the format is wide open, we sometimes play unfinished mixes as sson as we make them!(I know thats crazy, but hey, it lets people hear what were working on, and you can appreciate the final mix when its available!)We also play stuff from some artists that were interested in, etc.Theres

Well Miss Lizzy is out at the ROT Texas Bike Rally this weekend! Be sure and go see her and Jamie, who flew in from L.A. to be here, came straight to the studio where we all pitched in to help her decide which song to use for her Broadway audtion this weekend. We all want her to come back, but we hope she gets the gig also! (Hey Cabbage Patch Kids was cool. was'nt it?) Lana back in studio this week, also Miss Deana working on her Universal demo.Mike and Thru Da Kethole cable tv show will be filming the Bike Rally as he does every year.

Well weve just been slammed this last week, Liz Primeaux arrived from LA, and she had written so many songs we couldnt get them all into the computer fast enough!We had to give her a digital recorder to carry around so she could get them all down whenever they happen!That might have been a mistake as we also started doing Podcasts this week and so some of her Podcasts are on the digital recorder, in cars or wherever she happens to be! We have slowed down a little on the audio blogger casts here since we will be doing full studio shows with music and interviews from the label and artists on the big podcast.The audio blogs here we will use for being at shows, live events, backstage, etc where we really can't be in the studio. They will be a little more raw as well as more immediate, since they can post up almost as soon as we record from anywhere.

Next Podcast up will be from Monday during our recording session with Lana Massey as we get ready to finsh up a 5-song EP that will be released shortly.Lana discusses her recent trip to Nashville, including a guy jumping onstage with his own guitar and playing with them!

Liz Primeaux has returned from Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands on the Cuervo Nation Tour and after spending some time in LA, will return to Austin to get started on recording! She has written so many awesome new tunes it will be hard to keep up!One tune from the islands ia all about looking at the water and sky and how "the blues" are good!

We are mixing Deana's demos for Universal right now also.BKMRE are playing all over and we are currently discussing plans to release thier new album.

Inside The Outside

Inside The Outside has finished thier farewell concert at Smiley's in Largo, Florida.Fans traveled from all over to attend this last concert after the announcement was posted on the internet on fan sites.With such great fan response, we convinced them to record the show and videotape it.A four-camera shoot with live switching by the Relevant video crew, complete with special lighting was completed at the show, which included crowd mics, introduction by radio dj, acoustic songs,as well as previously unreleased songs by the group. The live CD is currently being mixed as well as the DVD.Plans are to possibly have Grammy-winning engineer (Peter Frampton, "Frampton Comes Alive")Aaron Swihart mix the album.In addition, we are discussing the possible re-issue of the bands first album, which is currently unavailable.Stay tuned for release dates and more news about this extraordinary album!

PBJ Wacara has a new artist! Her name is Liz Primeaux (pronounciation: "Primo" = great name for an artist!)Liz is currently in Los Angeles where she is pursuing her acting career. She came to Texas and was in the studio for a week. She wrote so many amazing songs during that time we have been struggling to catch up! This girl can write & perform in almost every genre of music, including rap!She wrote some very funny raps abouty Beverly Hills and had been singing it in clubs to rave reviews.You'll have to wait for our definitve version, but it will be worth it.We will have an in studio podcast interview with her up shortly.

Set Aflame

Spoke to Daniel Viera from Set Aflame this week while the band was in rehearsal.He says they are getting lots of new fans from thier MySpace.com site (http://www.myspace.com/setaflame) This site has really taken off for bands!For one thing it is set up the way A & R people want to see it. Everything is on one page. people, stop with all the flash stuff on your site and enter pages and all that. We just want to know the facts about your band! Picture, mp3 sample (streaming, so we dont have to click around & download it!)Where are you playing?(you ARE playing gigs right?)Hit counter=how many people come to your site.(This is important until you actually get some real Soundscan numbers for sales on your cd)Set Aflame is at redrum and has a cd release party coming up next month.They are playing gigs around the state and getting fans across the country.This is how you do it, people! Dan says they all work hard and are serious and spend hours on the computer with thier fans.They are planning a tour to Cali next. Watch out for these guys! I should be getting an advance copy to listen to soon, so well write about it here first!

BK & Mr E CD Release Party

Well, it was totally awesome, as expected! You know you should have been there, but we will take you there live for a few minutes so you can see what it was like!Full Service was on tour and opened for our boys.Scott started things off with some funny samples of Paul Harvey!Next thing you know Brandon & Jason hit the stage and the CD show was off and running!The songs sound amazingly good in concert, giving you the live feel of the album, but with some more ad-libs and variations from Brandon & Jason.Scott played some awesome bass lines on his new Edirol keyboard. He and Brandon traded sunglasses!Jason fired off some incredible guitar runs while singing. He also doubled on acoustic for "Red Eye".Mike from the "Thru Da Keyhole" tv show on Cable 16 (Friday Nights at 10pm) was there filming everything and promises some great footage of the band on his show. In addition he brought his co-host who is also a photographer and she got some great photos of the band.Of course Miss Claudia from Dickies took a break from all the magazine parties at SXSW that she took the boys to (Blender,Spin,Alternative Press)She had label people there checking out the band.We have plans to get a DVD from the show footage so you all can experience BK & Mr.E live!By the end, Brandon jumped all over the stage and ended up behind Scott singing backwards! Jason pounded out some incredible guitar riffs.All in all it truly was a great show, deserving of the hype and serving notice that a new force in music is here to stay! Afterwards Brandon let out the news that BK & Mr E are already working on a new album (possibly a double album!)that could even be done by August!Claudia says the band could be going to the Winter Music Conference in Miami. Nothing but big things in store for this great band! You will have to keep up with all their doings right here! cya at the next one.

If you don't know what that is we will expose you to it here as we start using it.Adam Curry (yes, the former MTV Vee-Jay!)has started a new thing that is growing very quickly and we met a lot of the people at SXSW,Gregorie from Podcast.net was especially helpful (even as he was due to appear on a panel that we attended)who helped us to get going. Basically we will be doing radio shows that can be downloaded to iPods! URGENT MOVEMENT REPORT

It has come to the attention of the I.G.S. that not all agents received
the last report.
Consider this your second official notification of the movements of “BK & Mr. E.”
Our reports show that the first official appearance of operation “Under
the Radar” is to take place in the United States, specifically Austin,
TX@ 515 East Sixth Street (A.K.A. The Flamingo Cantina).
This event is also being referred to as “THE CD RELEASE PARTY” by certain factions in the
underground network.
Be prepared for this initial onslaught, as it is not something that we
could ever be prepared for. The advances in technology that these forces
control is beyond anything we have ever encountered before.
This is the only way that you can keep yourself and those around you
informed about this new threat to the community.
